This video explains the fatigue life prediction of a component, under cyclic loading, using simulation in Abaqus and Fe-safe. At first, a brief explanation of common approaches to predict the components of fatigue life is given. Theories such as Goodman, Soderberg, etc. are among them. A brief introduction to Fe-safe software is followed by an explanation of the design algorithm. Next, the model is shown in the Abaqus environment. The model results are used as an input for Fe-safe software to predict the fatigue life of the component under the cyclic load.

Fe-safe:
This software was mainly developed to predict the fatigue life in components. Using Abaqus outputs as input, it predicts fatigue life based on geometry, material, stress, etc.
Fe-safe has been developed about 30 years ago and used for academic and industrial applications. Over the years, updates have been made to this software. This software was unique in its processing time and accuracy for engineers to design components. It is the first of its kind to be able to analyze multiaxial strain-based fatigue techniques. There are many applications for this software, such as thermo-mechanical fatigue, creep fatigue, and materials ranging from metals to rubber.
