How to Get Explicit Photos Removed

Having nude photos of yours spread online is an extremely scary situation. Today, I’m going to be explaining a little bit about Take It Down, an organisation that can help deal with it.

Take It Down works towards removing sexually explicit photos of people under 18. It works with several online platforms, including Instagram and TikTok. To get an image or video taken down, you have to upload it from your device onto the Take It Down website. It will then generate a “hash” or digital fingerprint. All copies of the image or video will have the same hash, so this can be used to identify it.

Take It Down then shares this hash - not the image - with the platforms they work with. The platforms scan the content on their apps or websites. If they detect any media with the same hash value, they take action to limit its spread.
