Because I’m disabled people always exceptionalize us, but they need not. In interabled relationships all the basic mechanics of a typical relationship still exist, it just looks different.The problem we humans have is we can only see up to our own experience, and anything outside of this is void of imagination. This is why instead of viewing interabled like any other relationship we assume is based on love and similar interests, a relationship with a disabled person must involve great sacrifice, suffering, charity or benevolence.
We have an obsession with hierarchy and achieving the perception of normality when differences should be viewed as just another variation rather than placing them on a scale of less or better than. The only point that needs to be known about interabled couples is we love each other enough to care and be there for each other, as is the point of any relationship. That and we make bad jokes all day long, because laughter really is the best medicine.
