New Baneshwor Chowk is one of the busiest chowk in Kathmandu, and aces long congestions, to address this issue, a new strategy is being implemented. Turning right at a busy junction in Kathmandu is a dangerous position. To put this idea to the test, work has begun on improving New Baneshwor Chowk.
According to the road department, a ‘right turning holding zone’ is being erected on the Maitighar-Tinkune road segment to minimize traffic congestion in the new Baneshwar Chowk and that region while cars travelling towards Old Baneshwor and Sankhamul are being constructed.
With the assistance of the Japan Cooperation Agency (JICA), this zone is being built from New Baneshwor Chowk to the east and west to west to relieve traffic congestion. The trees on both sides were taken down at the start, and development is already underway. The construction period of this plan is being worked on with the aim of completing it at the end of September.
