Welcome to Carta Total Compensation! In this video, we'll run through a quick demo overview of the Total Comp tool and its various features.

•••

To get started, your company is first going to connect your HRIS provider. Once that's completed, we'll level your employees and your dedicated concierge will schedule a kick-off call. Now that you're all synced up, the first thing you'll do is set up your whole compensation strategy using our Plan feature.

Your concierge is going to work with you during the kick-off call to craft your initial compensation plan based on the unique needs of your company. To implement a new compensation strategy, click on the "Plan" link in the nav bar, and then click "Create Plan" to get started.

First you're going to set a peer group, by choosing the market cap that best reflects your company's current or desired competitive set. The plan name will automatically populate to the most recent funding round, but you can change this as needed.

Next up, the unique Geo Adjustment feature allows companies to explore remote, in-office, and hybrid working compensation strategies. The "Local" option adjusts each employee's target compensation based on the local cost of labor for their home location, and sets a minimum adjustment threshold. The "Uniform" option sets a single location to target compensation for all employees.

Finally, the "Compensation Bands" option lets you adjust the width for equity and salary pay bands for each track. Click "Save" and "Preview Plan" to see how the new plan will impact your employees' target compensation, and once you're ready to implement the new plan, click on "Activate Draft" plan in the orange banner at the top, approve the changes, and then click "Activate Plan."

Now that your new plan is in place, let's move over to the Company Scorecard. This is where you'll display all your company employees, their roles and levels, and their equity and salary compensation. The purple bubbles contain the compensation ratios for equity and salary, which indicate how each employee's actual compensation compares to the target compensation for their role. The right column shows the Comp Score, a feature unique to Total Comp which provides an overall measure of "Low," "Mid," or "High" for each employee's total compensation. This score is helpful in quickly identifying which employee's compensation may warrant a deeper look.

The Employee Scorecard shows a detailed view of total compensation for the individual employee. The Equity Unit Toggle lets you select one of three ways to view equity compensation throughout the app. The three options -- Fully Diluted Ownership, Shares Granted, and Notional Preferred Value -- let you choose the right unit for a variety of different scenarios.

The Equity Compensation Timeline shows all of the employee's equity awards, as well as the total equity vesting over the next 12 months. This is a quick and easy way to identify if an employee is ready for an equity refresh. You can also see how the employee's compensation compares to the target compensation for the role.

With the Bands feature, you no longer have to find the market rate for all of your roles, or build pay bands in spreadsheets and constantly maintain them. The result is a simple and beautiful interface to view the target compensation for new hires and employees. Bands are automatically calibrated to your company's compensation philosophy, however you can quickly change the parameters to explore pay bands for nine different market cap peer groups across all U.S. metros. Our bands are modeled by our data science team, using data from over 10,000 companies, and they're updated on a quarterly basis. Our leveling system contains twelve different levels -- from entry level IC's all the way to C-level -- ensuring that as your company grows, your compensation strategy grows right along with it.

We hope you find these tools helpful toward paying your team fairly and competitively, and if you're interested in learning more, head over to our website at carta.com/totalcomp.
