Learn how to use Simulink Real-Time™ for rapid control prototyping and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. Naga Pemmaraju and Christoph Hahn guide you through the steps of real-time testing for a throttle valve controller using the Simulink Real-Time Explorer.

You’ll learn how to quickly simulate and test an algorithm of interest (AOI), realizing design changes in a matter of seconds and minutes.

Why Use Rapid Prototyping and Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing?

You haven’t yet chosen the embedded target for the algorithm and don’t want to hold up development
It’s difficult to prototype an algorithm on an embedded target because it’s hard to troubleshoot (Is it the algorithm, hardware interrupts, peripheral code…?)
Coding a prototype algorithm often requires a software engineer
You want to be self-sufficient by designing your algorithm and thus accelerating development
RP and HIL allow you to focus just on the algorithm and not on the rest of the system.

How It Works with Simulink Real-Time

Simulink Real-Time lets you create real-time applications from Simulink models and load them onto dedicated target computer hardware. The development computer is where MathWorks tools and supported compiler are located. The target computer has the SLRT kernel installed – a stripped down real-time operating system (RTOS). You can create and load a real-time application from a Simulink model automatically with Simulink Coder.
