A review of Thomas Nelson's Evangelical Study Bible in the New King James Version (NKJV). This volume, containing the 66 books of the Protestant canon, is bound in brown Leathersoft (ISBN 9780785227793, Style# 6533BRN). The words of Christ are in red. This Bible contains the sixty-six books of the Protestant canon. The text is printed in two 55 mm wide columns, organized into paragraphs, with in-text headings and chapter numbers printed in dark blue. Approximately 72,000 cross references and text and translation notes appear at page bottom, and are tagged to the text with black chapter:verse numbers. I believe this edition contains the complete set of NKJV text and translation notes. The 10 point Comfort Print text is attractively printed with adequate line spacing. Variations in print darkness are difficult to find, but more noticeable in the red text. Cross references and notes are in a roughly 7.5 point font. The volume is large, measuring 9 11/16 x 6 11/16 x 2.05 inches in dimensions. Margins are narrow. The widest margin is at the top (16 to 18 mm). Book introductions are included, and a 153 page concordance appears in the back of the volume. Printed in an 8 point font in three columns, the concordance lists about 4800 key words. The roughly 36 grams per square meter (gsm) paper is opaque, and show-through (ghosting) is not an issue. The paper is almost white, with a somewhat glossy surface. The volume is sewn and lies open in Genesis. Page edges are covered in gold. Two 10 mm wide ribbon markers are provided, one brown, one green. Head and tail bands are brown. The imitation leather cover features a line of stitching along the edge. The cover is not still, and the construction is paste-off/paste-down, with a decorated brown paper liner. The notes and study aids in the Evangelical Study Bible are based on those in the KJV Study Bible. Page-bottom notes are typically printed in a 9 to 9.5 point font and are arranged into two columns. Other study aids (doctrinal footnotes, personality profiles, archaeological sites, and apologetics articles) are in an 8 to 8.5 point font that spans the width of the page. A number of color photos and illustrations are also present. The notes display a high regard for the reliability and inspiration of Scripture. They are dispensational and premillennial in character. The perspective presented in the notes regarding the Lord's Supper and Baptism is one commonly found among Baptists in America. Seven color maps are located in the back. This edition was printed in China.
