Hello, K-Friends! Happy New Year! I hope all your dreams come true in 2021! May the year of 2021 be the healthiest and the most fruitful year of our lives!

Each country has different ways celebrating New Year’s Day, and in some countries, people eat traditional foods with their families, friends, and relatives.  So, I am going to introduce the very best food for New Year’s Day: sliced rice cake soup, Tteokguk. According to Korean tradition, when you have a bowl of tteokguk on New Year’s Day, you get a year older. Because of this, many people ask "How many bowls of tteokguk have you eaten?" to ask a person's age. Here comes the recipe of making the Korean New Year’s Day best cuisine, tteokguk!  Hope you like my recipe! I'll be back a better episode next week.

Ingredients for rice cake soup ( Servings for 3 people)
300 grams of beef loin or brisket, 600 grams of rice cake, 2 eggs, a bit of dried seaweed, 1 leek,
1 tablespoon of soy sauce (or fish sauce), 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, a bit of ground pepper, 1/2 tablespoon of garlic, 1 tablespoon of fish sauce, 7 cups of water

소고기 목심 또는 양지 300그램, 떡국떡 600그램, 계란 2개, 김 조금, 실고추(빨간고추 1개), 대파 2개,
간장(국간장 또는 액젓) 1큰술, 참기름 1큰술, 후추가루, 마늘 1/2 큰술, 액젖 1큰술 후추 조금, 물 7컵

How to Make Korean Tteokguk? Rice Cake Soup (떡국)
Step 1: Prep. ingredients
Soak the rice cake soup in water for about 20 minutes. Drain soaked sliced rice cakes in strainer. And put them in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and mix them.
Slice the beef chuck roll thinly.

Step 2: Making Egg Garnish
Divide two eggs, white and yolk separately. Add a bit of salt to the yoke and whisk well. Add oil to the pan. Wipe off the oil with a kitchen towel. Put the yolk in the pan and spread evenly on the pan.
Chop the green part of leek finely.

Step 3: Stir-fry and boil the sliced meat
Add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in the pot and add sliced meat. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Stir-fry the meat well over high heat. When the meat color changes, add 1/2 tbsp. of minced garlic. And then, add 7 cups of water. Boil it for about 10 minutes.
When the soup is well boiled, add the sliced rice cakes. Adjust the taste at this stage. If it's a little bland, add 1/2 tablespoon of salt. Boil it for about 3 minutes.
Put the prepared garnish. Add the sliced eggs and the sliced green leeks, a bit of seaweed flakes

요리 1 단계 :  떡국떡에다 간장 1 큰술을 넣고 섞어주세요. 핏물뺀 소고기 목심은 얇게 썰어주세요.

요리 2 단계 : 계란 노란자에 약간의 소금을 넣고 잘 섞어주세요. 팬에 기름을 넣고 키친 타월로 기름을 닦아냅니다. 후라이팬에 노른자를 넣고 골고루 펴 주세요.  계란노른자는 가늘게 썰어주시고 대파도 가늘게 썰어주세요.

요리 3 단계 :  냄비에 참기름 1 큰술을 넣고 얇게 썬 고기를 넣습니다. 간장 1 큰술, 다진 마늘 1/2 큰술, 그리고 물 7 컵을 넣어주세요. 10 분 정도 끓입니다. 국물이 잘 끓으면 떡국 떡을 넣습니다. 싱거우시면 소금 1/2 큰술을 넣으세요. 약 3 분간 더 끓입니다. 마지막으로 얇게 썬 계란 지단과 얇게 썬 대파,  약간의 김가루를 얹어주시면 됩니다.
