Also reviewed are some of the most important recent scientific studies that show why it’s so important to address hearing loss and why improving your hearing—either through professionally fitted or OTC devices—might help avert risk of social isolation, mental decline, and even possibly dementia.
Note: In retrospect, it seems very unlikely that the FDA will backtrack OTC hearing aids, as they factored in the possibility that some consumers may miss medical issues when treating their own hearing loss when deciding to make OTC hearing aids legal. They feel that with adequate labeling the risks to consumers are minimal and that the pros of increased accessibility outweigh the small chance of medical risks.
