A quick overview and test of the Orban Optimod-FM 8000A audio processor. This one was manufactured in 1976 and recapped in 1995. At the end I show using MPXTool on my computer as an FM modulation monitor and spectrum analyzer, connected to the Optimod's MPX output. I demonstrated the Optimod with no additional processing ahead of it, but the 8000 works best with an AGC ahead of it, such as an Aphex Compellor or CRL TVS-3001. It is capable of up to 15 dB of gain reduction, but I found that it sounds best if you use no more than 7 or 8 dB.

I have since sold this Optimod 8000 and upgraded to an 8100, which will get its own video demonstration in due time, but the 8000 works very well considering its age, and is still in use by many radio stations today.
