Preparing a Cannabis Plant for Cloning

The Chosen One

Once a plant is chosen a grower should make some adjustments to help ensure the maximum clone yield from the plant.


Younger Plants Are Easier to Clone
However, often times it is not until harvest time that a plants full potential is realized.

Once identified the chosen plant should be placed in a vegetative light cycle of 18-20hr.

*If the plant was in active flowering stage this will delay the transition back to the vegetative stage.



Up-Potting The Plant
Since a plant for cloning will become a mother/stock plant many growers elect to put this plant in a larger container to reduce overall stress and allow the plant to get larger.



Pruning Method May Have to Change
The goal for a plant to be cloned is to produce as many branches as possible so often this many lead to a different method of pruning being implemented.



Fertilizers
While you want to keep the plant healthy do not over feed it as it will make the cloning/rooting process more of a challenge.
This is particularly important in the case of nitrogen

Scout For Pests!
Keeping that plant healthy is very important



Shift the Plant To Isolated Location
Keep the plant in an isolated area to limit the chance of contamination with the “other” plants.
