I'm going to go ahead and start with, I love this pistol. I bought it from a Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, back in 2002 when we returned from Afghanistan. And while I have bought and sold numerous pistols since then, this was never one I considered selling...
There is a lot of history in these pistols. Originally Heckler & Koch started manufacturing the PSP (Police Self-Loading Pistol) back in 1979. After some changes for the American market, we ended up with the H&K P7M8 in 1983.
The design I feel was way ahead of it's time on a number of levels. From the ambidextrous magazine release, ingenious cocking / de-cocking mechanism, factory 3 dot tritium sights, grip angle, etc. But people are often wary of change, and this pistol had it in spades. Which led to it being discontinued in 2007. Well, that and the incredible amount of man hours that I imagine went into them with all of the machining involved.
People tend to have pretty strong feelings about the "Staple Gun"; as it is sometimes referred to due to the cocking mechanism. You either love it or hate it. For me, it is the best pistol I have ever shot. Both from a enjoyment standpoint, as well as my ability to put rounds where I want them.
