René Eckert has built himself a modern, industrial-style loft apartment in an old instrument factory. He furnished it mainly with old vintage furniture from bulky waste or upcycled pieces. René lives in the idyllic Zwotental valley in the Vogtland region of Saxony. He comes from the region. He started making snowboard films as a teenager. He soon turned his hobby into a profession and became a documentary filmmaker. He worked and lived all over the world and was part of the jet set. But at some point he turned his back on this world, wanted to live a reduced life and give up flying altogether. He dropped anchor in his homeland - the Vogtland. In the so-called Musikwinkel, a region that is still home to numerous musical instrument makers, he found his retreat. In 2014, he bought an old factory in the middle of the forest where harmonicas and parts for accordions used to be made. The house itself had been a residential building for many decades. René dismantled the building, removed all the walls and restored its industrial charm. He took a very sustainable approach and upcycled wherever possible: Old things were reused, almost all of the furniture came from bulky waste. René has arrived in the forest, in the tranquillity of the Zwoten Valley, his home. He has created a space for himself, his son and the many friends who take time out here: A life far away from the hustle and bustle of the world, reduced to the essentials. A film by Andreas Piasek (editor), Jan Mammey (camera), Daniel Kovacs (sound), Michael Wolf (editor). 00:00 Old instrument factory becomes a loft 00:31 Living loft 03:00 Bedroom 05:17 Kitchen & bathroom 08:03 Toilet 08:24 Garden
