Jalal ad-Din Rumi Muhammad Balkhi,
Jalal ad-Din Rumi Muhammad Balkhi, also known by the name of Mowlalvi, was born in 1207. His father was a famous theologian and preacher. during the Mongolian invasion, the family fled and settled in Konya, in Anatolia. He died there in 1273.
He is a great Persian mystic poet and spiritual guide who has deeply influenced Sufism. He used to stand up to governments and Islamic dogmatists in rather innovative ways. Iranians, Turks and Arabs still continue to admire his poems today. In his lifetime, he enjoyed keeping company with Christians, Jews and people from other religions, as much as he enjoyed the company of Muslims.
