Venus Megashift over Crystal Lavender

All the way from Pennsylvania!
This color was very popular the first time we sprayed it in a matte/satin finish but it is time to step it up to gloss. Shout out to @clutch_babe (Instagram) for trusting us with her Subaru WRX STI!
First off the car gets a wash with water and dish soap to remove all dirt/grease/oils. We wash the car 24hrs in advance so it has plenty of time to dry. Water is not our friend here.
As for masking, we don't need to remove too much. The owner lives pretty far away so we don't want her to have to drive all the way bac down for us to professionally remove the wrap when its time. It's better for both parties to only remove the easy stuff like tail lights and mirrors. Looking back I should have taken the wing off to make things easier. We use solvent proof materials to mask up the car and give it a good wipe down with water and denatured alcohol before we start spraying.
The base coat is going to be light grey. This neutral color allows us to build a thick enough starting layer while keeping the overall tone light in preparation for the lavender color that comes next. We put about 2 gallons of basecoat on the car before moving on to the color.
This particular color is called 'Crystal Lavender'. It is a nice light shade of purple and beautiful by itself but we are definitely going to take it up a notch on this project. We put about 1 gallon of Crystal Lavender down on the car making sure to spray full length passes to avoid striping and blotching.
Next up is the megashift pearl: Venus. This pearl is white in powder form but comes alive when sprayed over a colored base. It has a nice gold/green/pink shift to it and looks incredible in the sun. We use about 25grams and 1 gallon of clear basecoat to cover the car. We then let the car dry for about an hour before moving on.
Finally we spray the gloss. The car gets 2 coats to start with and we let it dry overnight. We then sand down the gloss for a smoother surface and spray 1 last wet coat. The finish will level out a little bit more as the paint cures but if the owner wants, they can have it wet sanded and buffed for a showroom shine. After unmasking, we take it out into the sun to see it shine.
The owner was thrilled with the color and loved that we surprised her by spraying the wheels black. Luckily she was in town for 1 more day so we took the opportunity to do a photoshoot and get some drone shots before she drove back to PA. After a few years or whenever she's ready, she can peel off the liquid wrap and go back to her factory blue.
