For gemstone cutter Rolf Ehrhard from Idar-Oberstein, it is always a feeling of happiness when he holds the shining stones in his hands. In the family business of Alexander and René Arnoldi, only precious one-of-a-kind stones are cut. Their specialty is aquamarines. Ebouching, the cutting of the rough stones, is a matter for the Arnoldis. Gemstone cutter Rolf Ehrhard does the fine work. He grinds more than 100 facets on the front and back of the aquamarine on a steel disc covered with diamond dust.
The most difficult task is the subsequent polishing. Rolf Ehrhard has to hit each facet at exactly the same angle as he cut it. This requires a lot of patience and years of experience. This is the only way to create the "fire" that makes the gemstone shine.
