Quahogs are clams that also go by the names hard clam, hard shell clam, littleneck, cherrystone, and more! They are the primary ingredient in New England clam chowder - though they've been used by people long before New England's existence. Quahogs are from North America's eastern coast. They live in tidal areas and have hard, ridged shells. Though they may look drab on the outside, on the inside these clams shine bright!

Scientific Name: Mercenaria mercenaria
Range: eastern coast of North America
Size: up to four inches (10.16cm)
Diet: planktonic sized animals and detritus
Lifespan: 40+ years
