How To Grow Sweet Pea Flowers & How To Get The Best Blooms

Hey, there, sweet pea! Let's talk about these beautiful flowers (not the edible plants) and everything you need to know, including how & when to plant seeds, maintenance, and tips. I've seen a lot of people drown the seeds. Also, if you have healthy, moist soil, you shouldn't need to soak them. That said, you CAN speed up germination by soaking the seeds even for just a short period of time. If anything, I'll soak them for just the little bit of time that I'm prepping the planting area. On that note, these can be sown directly. That means you want to make sure your planting area is properly prepared. That means clearing out old plants, aerating the soil, and getting moisture in there BEFOREHAND. With that all taken care of, you're ready to plant them. I usually go about every six inches apart. For depth, I prefer to actually place the seed on top of the soil and then mound soil on top of that instead of burying the seeds. With your seeds in the ground, it's time to water them in! Especially in many parts on zones 9 and 10, the weather is hot and dry this time of year. Taking time to properly saturate the soil is super important. I added finely sifted soil on top and water between all of the steps! While your plants are doing their thing, you have some time to prep structure for them. I like using cattle panels, but other types of support work.
