The RD400 is a 399 cc 2-stroke Air Cold six-speed bike produced from 1976 until 1979. It evolved directly from the Yamaha RD350. The 350 evolved into the RD400C in 1976 the "D" and "E" in 1978 and 1979 and the final model the white 1979 RD400F. Weighing in at 160 kilos, RD400 became the ultimate racing derived, 2-stroke Street racer. While Yamaha contracted racers enjoyed massive success in GPs, the firm's road customers were having just as much fun haring around the streets of Britain on the bike which paved the way for the Epic defining RD350LC of the early 1980s.
