Among the issues they will consider is "Why should we bother to teach students to think anthropologically?" In the course of their presentation, Welsch and Vivanco will reflect on some of the ways in which they get their students to interact with each other and with the teacher. They’ll discuss how they develop and keep a good discussion going despite different class sizes, detailing some of the strategies that have worked for them in small classes and in classes with more than 100 students. Welsch and Vivanco feel that cultivating curiosity is at the heart of getting students to think anthropologically; but how can you get your students to be more curious about the world? This question is at the heart of teaching students to think anthropologically.

Robert L. Welsch is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Franklin Pierce University. Luis A. Vivanco is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Co-Director of the Humanities Center at the University of Vermont. Both are authors of the acclaimed textbook, Cultural Anthropology: Asking Questions About Humanity.
