V/Line - Southern Cross - Sunbury on a Vlocity

In this video we take a ride on a V/Line Vlocity DMU between Melbourne's Southern Cross Station and the large town of Sunbury, the terminus of Metro's Sunbury line. Now normally it isn't allowed to use V/Line services to travel between Metro stations as V/Line services have pick-up and drop-off restrictions for Metro stations. However there are no such restrictions at Sunbury, meaning that you can use V/Line services to travel to and from Sunbury within metropolitan Melbourne. Stopping only at Footscray and operating at speed, travel time between Melbourne and Sunbury on V/Line services is 30 minutes, compared to around 50 minutes for a slower stopping-all-stations Metro service. Considering Metro services to Sunbury generally operate every 40 minutes, V/Line services fulfill a nice service gap and provide additional travel options for the people of Sunbury. Date: June 2021.
