Today I am driving what has to be one of the most controversial BMWs of all time - and there have been quite a few contenders for that honour!

This is an example of the 5 Series GT, an attempt to combine a 5 and 7 series in a unique bodyshell that has hatch-coupe looks and a luxury interior. On paper, it is a great idea -  but nobody bought one. Why should you now?
