Mental Health And Eating Habits: What's the Connection?

Good mental health and eating habits are closely connected. What we eat doesn't just affect our body; it also impacts our mind. When we consume nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, our brain gets the fuel it needs to function well. These foods provide vitamins and minerals that support mental well-being.

Conversely, a poor diet, heavy on processed foods and sugary snacks, can contribute to mental health issues. Studies show a link between unhealthy eating habits and conditions like depression and anxiety. Such foods may lead to mood swings and energy crashes, affecting our ability to cope with stress.

How do you recommend those with ADHD manage their cravings for dopamine release?
There are many ways to raise dopamine levels. Imagine in biblical days, food was harder to prepare so eating on a whim was not logical.

1. Exercise
2. Meditating on God’s word
3. Sunlight
4. Supplements
5. High fiber
6. Probiotics
7. Prebiotics

All these are ways to not eat when distracted or trouble engaging.

Are there any specific foods to eliminate depression and anxiety?

The Hunger Satisfied Journal is written for this very purpose. The sooner we identify the trigger foods, foods can lead to depression and anxiety, it stems from the gut microbiome, and when we have a trigger food, the sooner we identify it, the sooner we can see release.

The key foods that lead to this are foods that cause inflammation in the gut. Gut inflammation leads to permeability. Leaky gut. Inflammation comes first.

Processed foods, foreign bacteria, foreign chemicals - can all lead to leaky gut which then leads to depression.

Beyond the gut, it is the neurotransmitters that are formed in the gut that need to be addressed. Add in foods God designed and you will see the depression and anxiety start to dissipate.
This is not taking into consideration for trauma, or other reasons for the depression and anxiety.

Learning to change our thoughts about a situation can also teach us to choose another remedy.
Foods to eliminate - any food that is a trigger for you.
Always evaluate the circumstance as well.

How can I make lasting changes to my eating habits to be healthier?

Simple - take value in the 3 principles.
They are timeless and foundational.
Then decide - as Daneil did - Daniel made up his mind.
The woman who touched the hem of His garment - knew what was possible, the man in the book of John - did as jesus instructed when asked - do you wish to be well?
He got up and walked.
The man healed in Acts - went walking and leaping and praising God.

It starts with a decision and then realizing this decision is a lifetime blessing
