Top Tourist Attractions and Things to do, see and visit in Southampton, The City of the Titanic| England - Travel Guide England – United Kingdom
If you wanna' know a wee bit about Southampton and its beautiful places and main sights, a medieval haven that said goodbye to the world-known unsinkable ship: Titanic. Also a great city to live and work in. Don't miss this video out.
Before starting our visit to Southampton let's talk about its importance. Its harbour is the biggest one in the English Channel and it is still the main departure point to cruisers abroad. Regardless of Titanic's sad ending, this is the story of a successful city, perhaps undeservedly unknown in other countries when people think of England and the UK.
Southampton is located in the South of England. It has played an essential role in both England and the UK. People visit Southampton by the thousands everyday in some cases not looking for history but maybe visiting the astonishing St. Mary Stadium - home of Southampton F.C.
One curiosity on the way: Shinnecock channel is the natural way for all the cargoes, ships and aeroplanes than come and go from and to the Atlantic.
It's got one of the longer lasting traditions of shipyards, dockyards and stocks all over the world. Such a breath-taking city with amazing green areas such as Southampton Common. It's a welcoming city. You can ask any of the more than a thousand Spanish-speaking residents. Cobbled old streets with centenial manors and beautiful antique hotels and gardens.
My highlights on the city? Before we go with the video you should know the city suffered continuous bombings during WWII. Some of the sites have been preserved for posterity. Places like St. Michael's are there so younger generations don't forget what a fool thing war is. Even when it's a fair one and you're just defending yourself. We shouldn't forget the bravery, sacrifice and strength of will of those anonymous heroes to who we owe so much for their resistance.
