Alex is a force of nature. At the age of four, she began to limp and was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Gotham-Stout disease, or Disappearing Bone disease. Because the femur in her left leg had disintegrated so much, Alex had that part of her leg amputated and then her doctors performed a rotationplasty to turn her lower leg around and attach it at the hip so that her ankle could work as a knee in conjunction with her prosthesis.
