Imagine a world where undead zombie-like creatures have taken over the human world. Now, to survive, humans have to live on moving trains or in cities surrounded by tall walls. The only way to kill these beings is by destroying their hearts, which are protected by a layer of iron.
Ikoma, the main protagonist, has a personal mission to find a way to kill all Kabane, because one of them killed his sister in childhood. After years of trying, he made a weapon that can pierce the Kabane's hearts, but while fighting, he was bitten by one of them. Instead of becoming a Kabane, he became a hybrid, which is half-human and half-Kabane. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress was an enjoyable anime for the first half. Even though it has similarities to Attack on Titan, it takes it another path later on.
