This lecture visualizes the proof from last time so that we will have a better appreciation for why mutually preferable settlements exist. We begin by conceptualizing the dispute as over a piece of territory. Plotting each state's power on that strip establishes what portion each expects to receive by fighting. Including costs into the calculation forms a range of settlements that both sides prefer to war.
