I first discovered the world of Christian mysticism by reading Evelyn Underhill's classic book "Mysticism" published in 1911. The 1961 paperback edition has an ugly cover, but you know what they say about not judging a book!!! Anyway, here's a quick introduction to this book — and why I believe it still matters.
