Doctor Foster season 3 spoilers: Star drops b*mbshell for surprise return ‘It’s up to me’
ONE Doctor Foster star has dropped a very surprising spoiler about season three of the r*venge series, and it could prove that there is much more drama ahead.
Season two of the BBC drama carried through its hordes of fans with a gripping storyline that ended up with an incredibly upsetting finale for fans everywhere.
Doctor Gemma Foster’s (played by Suranne Jones) obsession with her cheating husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) didn’t seem to be going away, and the drama eventually reached fever pitch in the tense finale.
While it became clear that Simon was just as infatuated by his wife’s complex behaviour, the pair were headed for a devastating conclusion as viewers waited for them to kill each other.
What happened instead, was the warring parents inadvertently drove their struggling son Tom (Tom Taylor) to carve his own path away from them, as the teenager decided he couldn’t take any more and ran away.
While the open-ended nature of the season finale always left room for the hugely-popular series to return, it seems that now one writer has answered the question once and for all.
Speaking to Radio Times, Mike Bartlett revealed: “I will decide when to write a third series of Doctor Foster.
“It’s totally up to me. No one has ever put pressure on me to make more of it.”
The producer went on to share about his relationship with the BBC, claiming that the project’s future lies entirely within his hands.
“I think the BBC would rather I did something new,” he admitted. “But if we do bring Doctor Foster back it will only thrive if we do it at the right time.”
In terms of teasing what the next instalment would include, Mike gave a clear hint at where the show would pick up from.
He explained: “That ending of series two leaves a lot open to come back to: Where has the son Tom gone and what’s happening to him?
“What happens to the parents? That’s the sort of story territory we’d be in, but it’s not written yet.”
Following the drama’s exceptional win at the National Television Awards last month, which also saw series star Suranne pick up the Best Actress trophy, other spoilers have come out about the possibility of a season three.
“After its ratings success last year commissioners were always keen for it to come back and although its early days they have given it the green light,” a source told The Sun.
They continued: “Suranne is extremely busy with other projects at the moment but bosses are trying to pin her down for some potential filming dates.
“It’s looking like it would film next year at the earliest.”
