How to open a wax sealed wine? Why are wax sealed on wines? Wax sealed was invented to protect the wine cork from the rodents in the cellar or on the ships during the transport. Wax capsules protected corks from leaking.
Today, the wax is used to either provide an air-tight seal for wines that are meant to be aged for long periods of time or that they are used as ‘high-end’ decoration for otherwise ordinary wines. Wax seals are quite common in natural, lower intervention wines or biodynamic wines.
