If you use a Gopro Hero 3 or 3+ Black Edition but aren't well versed in videography, you may wonder what the 2.7K resolution mode is and why you would use it. Well simply, it is higher resolution than 1080p so it allows you to crop further or digitally zoom in to better frame your shot, or pull larger still frames out of the video to use as photos. If your shooting and editing workflow can handle the extra pixels, they can come in handy. Some claim the image sensor and processor handle 2.7K better than 1080p and get a cleaner image, but my tests haven't seen this yet. So what's the difference between 2.7K and 2.7K Cin mode? Well, 2.7K is shot at 30fps in a 16:9 aspect ratio, much like TV and a lot of computer playback. 2.7k Cin crops off the top and bottom a bit to create a 17:9 wider aspect ratio as some movies like to. Its also shot at 24fps like movies, so it gets that film look due to the proper motion blur, which also helps the camera take in a little more light in slightly dim situations. What's right for you? For action videos, 2.7k is great. But if you're trying to get a cinema look in your movies, and if the rest of your project will be in 17:9, Cin mode is great.
