Did you know that Nas’ original hate me now video was vaulted for over 20 years? The reason why is that the original video depicted Diddy and Nas being crucified.
After filming wrapped Diddy had second thoughts about the crucifixion scene due to him being religious and having a talk with his pastor. Days before the video was set to air he reportedly reached out to Nas’ manager, Steve Stoute, multiple times in which he requested that all footage of him interacting with the cross be removed.
However, there seemed to be an error in communication, and the version of the video with Diddy on the cross premiered on TRL. Diddy was watching live and within minutes of the video premiere, Diddy and his bodyguards stormed into Steve Stoute’s office. The story goes that Diddy allegedly broke a champagne bottle on Steve’s head.
For over 20 years the original video wasn’t available to the public but as of 2022, it was found by HipHopVCR. A preview is on their channel.
