How can you use the verb ‘to be’ in the first person singular? You already know that we conjugate the verb ‘to be’ as ‘am’ in the first person singular like in the phrase ‘I am a man’ or ‘I am going home’? So now, let’s talk about how to use the verb ‘to be’ in the first person singular to ask questions in the interrogative or deny things in the negative. Here are some of the phrases from the video:
* I am David
* I’m a man
* I am not a woman
* I am 39 years old
* I am not 38 anymore
* Am I 40 already?
* Am I a doctor?
* No, I am not
* Am I a teacher?

Contraction: When speaking, we generally use contractions. So, ‘I am’ becomes “I’m”
Pronunciation Tip: Notice that in the pronunciation of ‘I am’ it almost sounds as if you were saying the word ‘yam’.
