What is a geriatrician and
What is a geriatrician and what makes the geriatrician role different? Well, we're going to look at all your medications and see which ones we can stop.
A geriatrician doctor will look at the whole person. We work with some specialists, but we don't send people out to specialists to take care of everything and then just kind of step back.
There's not a lot of training in geriatrics and how the treatments differ depending on the patient's age. A well-functioning treatment for a 40 or 50-year-old can be really problematic for an 80 or 90 years old. So, it is a problem. I do like to have my care manager tell me exactly what's going on out there, or at a facility have them tell me exactly hour by hour what's going on with this person and what over-the-counter medications they're taking.
