This song is about the abuse someone went through growing up. The abuse made them hide away their true self and they are still working through the trauma they experienced all those years ago.
I tried to help them in every way I could for a very, very long time but in the end I realised it was them who had to get through it and there was nothing I could do to help them with a journey only they would have to make.
