Asylum seekers at US border now rejected at higher rates

As World Refugee Day is honored, new numbers show that the United States is accepting far fewer applicants for asylum at the southern border than before the pandemic. Almost six weeks after Title 42 officially ended, new data show that the rate of rejection for asylum seekers is now significantly higher than it was during the five years before Title 42 went into effect. "These are desperate people trying to get away from violence, from economic hardship," said immigrant rights activist Enrique Morones, founder of the non-profit Gente Unida.
