An animation depicting how the Australian Tsunami Warning System (ATWS) works.
The ATWS uses several different types of equipment, which monitor, detect, measure and warn of tsunamis. Sensors transmit information to the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre via satellite, where Geoscience Australia and the Bureau of Meteorology analyse the information. If necessary, a tsunami warning is issued.
