Tests for Hepatitis

First thing after consulting a doctor, a liver function test should be done which will show the liver enzymes and give a basic idea regarding whether the patient has hepatitis or not. After that, to confirm what kind of hepatitis the patient has, such as hepatitis A, B, C, D or E, we can get a viral test done. In case of alcoholic hepatitis, a liver biopsy may be required to confirm the level of inflammation the patient is having in his/her liver cells. In cases of jaundice or abdominal distention, an ultrasound or CT scan should be done. A few patients also develop blood in their vomit, and in those cases endoscopy tests may be required.
