Presenters: Hilary Brown and Laurie Proulx 0:00 – Introduction 6:14 – Setting the stage: the context of disability and pregnancy in Canada 21:58 – Our research process 47:25 – Lessons learned --- Hilary Brown, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, in the Department of Health & Society and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. She is cross-appointed to the Temerty Faculty of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and is an Adjunct Scientist at Women's College Hospital and ICES. Dr. Brown holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Disability & Reproductive Health. Her research program examines maternal and child health across the life course, with a particular focus on populations with disabilities and chronic illness, health equity, and the social determinants of health. Laurie Proulx has lived with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and disability since she was 14 years old and her experiences led to her involvement in the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance (CAPA), a grass-roots patient driven and managed organization. She currently works part-time for CAPA as managing director and works as a consultant for healthcare organizations, researchers, and patient organizations/health charities. Her consultancy focuses on patient and community engagement, knowledge translation, health and social policy analysis, and workplace inclusion for disabled people.
