In Lecture No. 19 of the Principles of Management course, the focus is on Group Decision Making, exploring its advantages, disadvantages, and various models used in the process. The lecture begins by discussing the Advantages of Group Decision Making, emphasizing benefits such as increased diversity of perspectives, enhanced creativity and innovation, better acceptance and implementation of decisions, and improved problem-solving through collective intelligence. However, the lecture also delves into the Disadvantages of Group Decision Making, highlighting potential drawbacks such as time-consuming processes, conformity pressures leading to groupthink, conflicts and disagreements, diffusion of responsibility, and the risk of decision-making being dominated by influential individuals. A significant portion of the lecture is dedicated to exploring different Group Decision Making Models: Satisficing Model: In this model, groups seek satisfactory solutions that meet minimum criteria rather than maximizing outcomes. It acknowledges the limitations of time and resources and aims to find acceptable compromises. Incremental Model: The incremental model involves making decisions through a series of small, incremental steps. Groups gradually refine and adjust their decisions based on feedback and new information, allowing for flexibility and adaptation over time. Garbage-Can Model: The garbage-can model views decision-making as a chaotic process influenced by various factors such as problems, solutions, participants, and opportunities. Decisions may arise opportunistically as solutions are matched with problems, rather than following a linear, rational process. Throughout the lecture, students engage in discussions, case studies, and simulations to explore the dynamics of group decision-making and understand how different models can be applied in practice. By the end of Lecture No. 19, students should have a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in group decision-making, along with the ability to critically evaluate the advantages, disadvantages, and applicability of different models in organizational contexts. #MGT503 #VUShortLectures PrinciplesofManagement @thevirtualuniversityofpakistan If you ever need anything, please feel free to reach out me at my eMail [email protected] and at my contact +92 301 685 2116 same as on WhatsApp no.
