In this video, Dan Charbonneau covers how to connect to a Postgresql data source with BIRT. BIRT is an intelligence reporting tool that takes complicated data sets and turns them into reports and charts that are easy to read and digest.
Dan begins by downloading the ODBC and JDBC drivers you’ll need to connect BIRT to a Postgresql data source. He’ll walk through each step of installing the drivers, then show you how to add the Administrative Tools on your Start button if you haven’t already. A few steps are a bit counterintuitive, and Don calls those out as he goes and then tells you how to address them.
You’ll also hear about Eclipse, which is the design environment for all kinds of different Java development and is also where the BIRT reporting tool lives. By the end of the video, you’ll have everything you need to replicate this process yourself.
