What happens after you fall asleep is mysterious for most patients, so here I show what happens for tonsillectomy surgery. I use propofol and succinylcholine for induction and paralysis. I use tape to protect the eyes from corneal abrasions. The laryngoscope is an old, but incredibly useful, low tech, tool to intubate the trachea. I use it here, with careful attention to not cause dental damage. I'm intubating here without help from any assistants. I use two hands to juggle to endotracheal tube, stylet, laryngoscope, and syringe to raise the ETT cuff. Remember that mental health is so important to this process! Mental health, like anxiety and depression, are also important to surgery and anesthesia success! It's why I call patients the night before surgery, and why I use therapeutic suggestions before falling asleep with propofol. Mental health matters!
