There are so many essential things can be made with the date palm leaf. Its so important that some tribes of Africa made their house or huts with this. Mats, baskets, fans and screens are also made with the matured date palm leaves.

Insulating boards are made of some processing of this leaves. Dried leaf petioles are a sources of cellulose pulp which are used to make walking sticks, brooms, fishing floats and fuels. The fiber of these leaves are also used to make ropes, coarse clothes and large hats.

In some region the young leaves are cooked as vegetables. The flowers of the date palm are also edible.
