Iowa Hawkeyes beat ISU 31-17 as a storm of Hawkeyes rain down on Aimes.

Also, rest easy Tyler Sash. Go HAWKS.

Things are different for Iowa with C.J. Beathard at quarterback. There's more sizzle to the offense. At times, there could be more risks. Beathard brings a new element to the huddle, and perhaps to the game that has been such a bugaboo for Ferentz's teams.

Thanks to Beathard's heroics and a defense that locked down Iowa State in the second half, Iowa emerged with a 31-17 victory against its in-state rivals. The Hawkeyes improved to 2-0 after their second consecutive win in Ames.

It's a critical season for Ferentz, and no game supports the criticism he's received more than the struggles against Iowa State. To come from behind on the road is big, especially for Beathard and the offense. Despite poor field position for much of the game, Beathard led a 93-yard scoring drive and two other drives of longer than 85 yards that didn't end with points. Beathard completed 15 of 25 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score to Riley McCarron. Iowa overcame the loss of top running back LeShun Daniels Jr. (ankle), and its defense bottled up Iowa State's rushing attack (63 yards on 27 attempts). Although Iowa State's Sam B. Richardson looked good in the first half, Iowa limited him down the stretch, and cornerback Desmond King sealed the win with an interception.
