A Gyrfalcon is a world-class predator. In the winter, they hunt overwintering ducks, like these Mallards on the Canadian prairies. They rocket in low to the ground, using hills and draws as cover to surprise the large flocks. As the ducks explode in fear, a duck is singled out while the remaining thousands panic and flock in tight defensive formation.
