What is the Night of Lights?
Nights of Lights is one of the most popular city-wide light displays in the Southeastern United States. This dazzling display of some three million white lights create a magical atmosphere in the nation's oldest city. The lights are strung up along the city’s buildings, trees, and waterways, creating a beautiful and enchanting sight to behold.

When is Nights of Lights?
Nights of Lights is an annual event that happens from November to end of January. 2023 is St. Augustine's 30th year of celebrating Nights of Lights. This spectacle started in 1993 as a way to boost tourism in the winter months.

Where is Nights of Lights?
Nights of Lights is a FREE event that takes place throughout downtown St. Augustine. There is not one particular spot to see the lights. However, most of the lights are concentrated in the Plaza de la Constitucion and along the bayfront.

What time of day do the lights turn on (and off)?
The lights turn on every day at 5:30 p.m. and remain on past 2:00 a.m. during Nights of Lights.

Why only white lights?
It is said that St. Augustine uses white lights to honor an old Spanish tradition of displaying a white candle in windows during the Christmas holidays in reference to Mary and Joseph finding no inn that would give them shelter so when Spanish place candles on their windows, they were symbolically making room in their homes and hearts for Jesus.

Where should I park?
There are several places to park during Nights of Lights. Both public and private lots are located all over downtown St. Augustine. Private lots charge from $15 dollars and up. 'Pay by Plate' is the metered parking. Download the ParkStAugustine app to pay, extend and manage your parking session right from your mobile phone. I recommend parking close to Plaza de la Constitucion as that is the center of downtown or park at the Historic Downtown Parking Garage for $20 per vehicle. Tip: Get there early in the evenings to secure your parking spot.

What is the best way to see the lights?
Explore the twinkling lights of Nights of Lights on foot, by vehicle such has the Old Town Trolley or Ripley's Red Train, by an Electric Cart, and by boat to experience the magic of St. Augustine’s winter wonderland.
