CDT Thru Hike Ep 22: Jackson to Flagg Ranch - "Teton Crest Trail"

Teton Crest Trail - In this episode of my Continental Divide Trail Thru Hike Documentary, Hopeful, Katie and I hike from Jackson to Flagg Ranch on the Teton Crest Trail through Grand Teton national Park and the Jedidiah Smith Wilderness. It's a 106 mile hike over 4 days. Almost immediately after starting the Teton Crest Trail at Phillips Pass, we jumped right into the good stuff... lots of colorful wildflowers, big valleys, impressive peaks. North of Death Canyon Shelf the views somehow got even better as we approached Alaska Basin, which had some of the densest patches of wildflowers I saw on the CDT. And somehow yet, we were further blown away at the top of Hurricane Pass with our closest and best view of the Grand Tetons and Schoolroom Glacier. The Lake Solitude area was equally stunning. This was also our departure from the traditional Teton Crest Trail, where it continues along the Paintbrush Divide Trail, as we found our own way over the divide towards Little's Peak and into Granite Basin. From here we hugged the base of the west side of the divide north for many miles, until crossing back over the divide into Moose Basin and Webb Canyon. This is where we encountered probably the worst bushwhack on the CDT. Eventually we reached Jackson Lake, and followed this north to Flagg Ranch.

This extended Teton Crest Trail route is a spectacular hike that offered a good mix of "easy" walking on trail to cover miles, cross country travel and bushwhacking for your fill of adventure, and plenty of awesome views to go around.
