This training program will provide an overview of neurodivergent youth and their increased risk for substance use and misuse. Participants will gain an understanding of the various neurodivergent conditions and how they may impact a youth’s vulnerability to substance use and addiction. Participants will learn about evidence-based interventions and approaches that are effective in supporting neurodivergent youth in substance use prevention and treatment.  

It is designed to help professionals, who work with youth, gain a better understanding of the unique challenges and needs of neurodivergent youth who struggle with substance use, misuse and addiction; and ways to effectively provide supports and treatment delivery for this vulnerable population.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Mitchell Reid is a highly accomplished Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 12 years of experience. His impressive academic background includes a doctorate from Howard University, where he specialized in Child Clinical Psychology. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a keen interest in understanding the impacts of child development, masculinity, gender development and family functioning on substance use and mood disorders.

With a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field, Dr. Reid has made significant contributions to academia through his publications of peer-reviewed scholarly articles, research projects, and presentations. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations, focusing on mood disorders, autistic disorders, intellectual disabilities, anxiety disorders, and other pathologies. His academic and professional experience has positioned him to bring a unique and valuable perspective to our discussion on neurodivergent youth and substance use.

Dr. Reid’s compassionate and patient-centered approach has made him a respected and sought-after practitioner, as he currently serves as the CEO and Lead Clinician at the Reid’s Wellness, Therapy, and Research Center, as well as a Senior Clinical Psychologist, at the Richmond Behavioral Health Authority.
