Greetings, and welcome to the world of Glaschutte Original. Today, I'll be your guide to the PanoMatic Lunar. Forty millimeters in stainless steel. This automatic winding, panorama datum, moon phased timepiece combines both practical and romantic elements in a single versatile reference. The timepiece starts with a substantial single fold deploying clasp, featuring the company marquis, it's also distinguished by a contrasting satin top and polished flanks. Nuanced in aesthetics, it's robust in its construction, looping with the opposite side of the strap to provide protection against accidental droppage while dining or removing at bedside.

It's paired with an upscale, semi gloss black alligator leather strap, bolstered down it's center for definition and body. It features a monotone stitch and folded edges. On the underside is a supple calf skin. And at the junction with the case flank, note the subtle recess between the lugs present on both sides of the case that allows the strap end to move unimpeded such that this large watch will fit well on a smaller wrist. The strap completely unencumbered can pull straight down.

The case band of the watch is defined by the contrast between gentle directional satin finish on the case band horizontally, as well as the flanks of the lugs and the high polish of the lip of the bezel, the tops of the lugs and the case back. The bezel itself features a conical profile and a subtle step where it abuts the sapphire to give it definition and an air of masculinity. The dial itself is produced by Glaschutte Original's Florsheim dial manufactory. Features a gentle matte finish as well as countersinks for the registers featuring hours and minutes as well as seconds.

The contrast between the silver metallic of the dial and the beautiful blue of the hands makes for easy reading at a glance as well as substantial beautiful. Comely and logical, the practical information of the time is opposed to the romantic of the portrayal of the moon and the night sky within a traditional moon phase. The double digit date, or panorama datum, is present at approximately 4 conventionally on the dial and it features, like the moon phase, an aperture to provide a more graceful and gradual step down to the discs of the complication. Now of course, a small amount of luminescence is present. This is a romantic and practical reference, so that you can see the alpha style hour and minute hands at night.

Also note the applied indices for the hours, hand applied and polished, they make for both beauty and practical contrast. The flank of the case features a pusher adjuster for correcting the moon phase display and the case back itself features both a three quarter style micro rotor and this spectacular hand engraved balance bridge with duplex style fine adjustment mechanism. This is the Glaschutte Original manufacture caliber 90-0-2. Automatic winding, it features a power reserve of 42 hours plus or minus five percent. It features hacking or stop seconds for fine adjustment of the time.

With robust 47 jewels, adjusted for precision in five positions and the no two alike hand engraving of the balance bridge, this is a watch that is both precise and artisanally outstanding. Start with the balance bridge. Each flank is engraved by hand such that no two examples of this caliber are exactly the same. On top of the engraving, the duplex double swan's neck regulation, black polish. One can see why this optical polishing technique is so named, reflecting light only in one direction. From every other angle, appearing almost black.

The screws are beautiful cobalt blue heated in a kiln and fired. They're oxidized to obtain that blue color in traditional fashion. Likewise, the movement features richly textured Glaschutte stripes as well as a three quarter style bridge for the train and the winding system. The three quarter style of the bridge paying homage to the vintage pocket watches built by the manufacturer during the nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The timepiece features a balance. At 40 millimeters, it's neither undersized, nor oversized. With a gorgeous silvered dial featuring moon phase, date and time. It features both romantic elements to appeal to the heart and practical elements to appeal to the head.

With a manufacture caliper, it appeals to the engineer. But with hand finish it also appeals to those of an artistic sensibility. You can see this Panomatic Lunar and the entire collection of Glaschutte Original timepieces on our website, Golvbergwatches.com
