Gauteng crime wardens to be equal to provincial traffic police

The Justice Department has revealed that Gauteng Crime Prevention
wardens will assume the same legal status as the provincial traffic
police.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi first announced the deployment of 6 000 wardens
in his state of the province address as part of his crime-fighting
strategy.

Maverick Citizen Editor Mark Heywood, who's written extensively on the
wardens, says they have been given full policing powers.
